Auto Club Speedway

Auto Club Speedway, formerly California Speedway,is a two-mile (3 km), low-banked, D-shaped oval superspeedway in Fontana, California which has hosted NASCAR racing annually since 1997. It is also used for open wheel racing events. The racetrack is located near the former locations of Ontario Motor Speedway and Riverside International Raceway. The track is owned and operated by International Speedway Corporation and is the only track owned by ISC to have naming rights sold. The speedway is served by the nearby Interstate 10 and Interstate 15 freeways as well as a Metrolink station located behind the backstretch.

Construction of the track, on the site of the former Kaiser Steel Mill, began in 1995 and was completed in late 1996. The speedway has a grandstand capacity of 68,000 and 28 skyboxes and a total capacity of 122,000. In 2006, a fanzone was added behind the main grandstand. Lights were added to the speedway in 2004 with the addition of a second annual NASCAR weekend. Since 2011, the track has hosted only one NASCAR weekend.

IndyCar returned to the track in 2012 with its season finale race (a 500-mile night race); the series previously ran a 400-mile race from 2002 to 2005.

Martinsville Speedway Live

Martinsville Speedway is an International Speedway Corporation-owned NASCAR stock car racing track located in Henry County, in Ridgeway, Virginia, just to the south of Martinsville. At 0.526 miles (847 m) in length, it is the shortest track in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. The track was also one of the first paved oval tracks in NASCAR, being built in 1947 by H. Clay Earles. It is also the only race track that has been on the NASCAR circuit from its beginning in 1948. Along with this, Martinsville is the only NASCAR oval track on the entire NASCAR track circuit to have asphalt surfaces on the straightaways, then concrete to cover the turns. 3 clips of the 2011 Goody’s Fast Relief 500 which was held at Martinsville Speedway appeared on The Simpsons Season 25 Episode 9 “Steal This Episode.

The track is often referred to as paper clip-shaped and is banked only 12° in the turns. The combination of long straightaways and flat, narrow turns makes hard braking going into turns and smooth acceleration exiting turns a must. The track was paved in 1955 and in 1956 it hosted its first 500-lap event. By the 1970s, a combination of high-traction slick tires and high speed was putting excessive wear on the asphalt surface. In 1976 the turns were repaved with concrete (a rare concept in the 1970s).[2] By 2004, the then 28-year-old concrete had shown significant wear. On April 18, 2004 a large chunk of concrete had become dislodged from the track’s surface and caused severe damage to the body of Jeff Gordon’s car. In reaction to this, the track was fully repaved with new concrete and asphalt.

Until 1999, Martinsville was notorious for having two pit roads. The backstretch pit road was generally avoided because if a team had to pit there during a caution, any car pitting on the front stretch had the advantage of pitting first and not having to adhere to pace car speed upon exiting their pit road. This was rectified when pit road was reconfigured to extend from the entrance of turn 3 to the exit of turn 2. This move allowed for a garage to be built inside the track, and leaves Bristol as the only active NASCAR track with two pit roads.

Selection Sunday Live

This Sunday is one of the best days in sports: Selection Sunday. On Tuesday, CBS Sports and Turner Sports announced they would be changing up the NCAA March Madness Selection show again.

This year, the 2018 NCAA March Madness Selection Show will be aired on TBS, and instead of just giving us the information we want, they’re going to make us sit through a dramatic reading of the 68 teams that are selected for the tournament.

Also, a live studio audience? Unless Jim Boeheim is in that live studio audience when Syracuse isn’t announced, it’s so extra.

Revealing a list of the 68 teams selected in some other fashion than the announcing of the bracket is messing with something that didn’t need to be messed with. This has been CBS’s M.O. for years now.

Remember two years ago? CBS got cute, announcing one region in the bracket, then going immediately to their analysts to break down that section of the bracket. Well, this is the age of the internet, and that shit doesn’t fly. The 2016 bracket was leaked to Twitter with the quickness of Chris Lykes, and everyone rejoiced.

Except CBS, of course, whose ratings sucked. Their ratings dropped 5% from the year before and were the lowest since 1995, per the NY Daily News.

So last year, they changed things up, going back to the old standard of announcing the whole bracket before forcing Barkley to struggle with a touch screen. At least they cut a half hour off the affair, making it a manageable hour-and-a-half instead of the two hour disaster from 2016.

Well, now it’s going to be two hours and have a pointless reveal of the 68 teams making the tournament without any context as to where they’ll be playing and against whom. Even if it only takes 5-10 minutes, you can guess they’ll probably throw in a commercial break. It’s just so unnecessary. The most frustrating thing is that this isn’t that hard. Let me help you, CBS.

National championship 2018 Live

The 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship was a college football bowl game that determined the national champion in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision for the 2017 season. The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 26–23 in overtime. Alabama overcame a 13–0 deficit at halftime. Tua Tagovailoa and Da’Ron Payne were respectively named the offensive and defensive players of the game.

The College Football Playoff selection committee chose the semifinalists following the conclusion of the 2017 regular season. Alabama and Georgia advanced to the national championship after winning the semifinal games hosted by the Sugar Bowl and the Rose Bowl, respectively, on January 1, 2018. The championship game was played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia on January 8, 2018.

After winning the coin toss, Alabama deferred to the second half and Georgia received the ball to begin the game. After two plays, quarterback Jake Fromm attempted a pass downfield and was intercepted by Tony Brown. Alabama began their first drive of the game, and, after eleven plays, that drive ended with kicker Andy Pappanastos missing a 40-yard field goal. The teams each had three-and-outs for the game’s first two punts. During Georgia’s ensuing drive, the quarter ended, with no score. After a failed third down conversion, on the second play of the second quarter, Georgia kicker Rodrigo Blankenship hit a 41-yard field goal to open the scoring and put Georgia in the lead by three. Alabama’s ensuing drive went nowhere, as they gained four yards on three plays and punted. Georgia took the ball and drove down the field, and found themselves with a first and goal at the Alabama 10-yard-line; the Tide defense held, however, and the Bulldogs settled for a second field goal and took a 6–0 lead with just over seven and a half minutes until half. On Alabama’s next drive, the Georgia defense held yet again and Alabama’s JK Scott punted for the third time. Just prior to the punt, Georgia wide receiver Javon Wims was shown walking to the locker room, reportedly with a left shoulder injury. Both defenses then forced punts, and Georgia took back over with 1:19 remaining in the half on their own 31-yard-line. Nine plays later, on Alabama’s 1-yard-line, Mecole Hardman took a direct snap, faked a handoff, and ran into the end zone for the game’s first touchdown, putting Georgia up 13–0 going into halftime.

Because they deferred the coin toss, Alabama received the ball first in the second half. They started their drive on their own 22-yard-line. Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama’s backup quarterback, started the second half for the Tide; that drive quickly resulted in a three-and-out. The initial punt was blocked, but an offside call gave the Tide another chance to punt. Georgia started their drive on their own 36-yard-line, but punted on 4th & 17. Alabama took over on their own 44-yard-line.[6] The teams then traded touchdowns on consecutive drives; Alabama scored their first points of the game on a 6-yard pass from Tagovailoa to Ruggs, but Georgia immediately responded with an 80-yard touchdown connection from Fromm to Mecole Hardman, putting Georgia up 20–7. On the second play of Alabama’s ensuing drive, Tagovailoa, while scrambling to the left, threw into traffic and was intercepted by Georgia’s Deandre Baker. Up 13, the Bulldogs took over possession of the ball on Alabama’s 39-yard-line. The Tide defense responded immediately, however, as Raekwon Davis intercepted a Jake Fromm pass on the first play of Georgia’s drive, returning the pick to the UGA 40-yard-line. The Tide gained fifteen yards on six plays and kicker Andy Pappanastos avenged his earlier miss with a 43-yard field goal that put Bama within ten. The teams then traded punts. Just prior to Alabama’s punt, it was announced that an Alabama defensive back, Kyriq McDonald, had collapsed on the sideline; the situation was described as a “serious medical emergency”. He was loaded onto a medical stretcher awake and conscious. Georgia could not muster anything on offense that drive, and punted. The fourth quarter saw Tagovailoa lead the Tide to come back and tie the game at 20 with 3:49. With three seconds remaining in the game, Andy Pappanastos missed a potential game-winning 36-yard field goal to the left, sending the game to overtime.

In overtime, Georgia scored on a 51-yard field goal. On Alabama’s first offensive play in overtime, Tagovailoa was sacked for a 16-yard loss, but immediately followed that with a game-winning 41-yard touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith. Tagovailoa was named the offensive player of the game, and Da’Ron Payne was named the defensive player of the game summary
